B3. Encourage Player Engagement

“I am already immersed in the experience because I feel like I am inside and am part of the VR world. So, I want the environment to encourage me to discover and explore.”

The audio and visual elements of players’ surrounding environment help create a better spatial understanding of where players are and encourage them to interact with the world around them. Objects which can be interacted with are obvious and stand out.

Immersion in VR is [innate] difficult to avoid. The players have a sense that they are inside of an experience and therefore feel immersed. However, engagement is not as implicit. Engagement encourages the player to interact with not only the environment but the mechanism of the system. When players are engaged with the experience this deepens immersion.
